Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali has passed away at the grand old age of 100. To this, we say:
إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ
To many Malaysians, she was more than a Prime Minister’s wife. She was a doctor, a mother, and a woman who lived through some of the most defining chapters of our nation’s story.
A hundred years is an extraordinary lifetime. She was born in Malaya, saw it become Malaysia, and witnessed the country grow, struggle, prosper and change through generation after generation.
She saw history unfold not from a distance, but from within it.
We may remember the politics and legacy of her era differently. But history is rarely simple, and neither are the people who live through it.
Today, we remember Tun Hasmah for the life she lived, the people she touched, the country she witnessed, and the century she carried with her.
